Last year we sent three participants to the National Star Certification Exam Phase Three held in St Thomas Ontario.
We came home with two badges. This year we are looking forward to having all our seniors National Star certified; we know
you can do it! Feel free to ask your seniors if you have any questions, or concern regarding the National Testing, most of
them have taken it a time or two. Please keep in mind, an outstanding majority do not pass on their first try, but you have
some of the best supports and training officers behind you! Your NSCE is set in 4 stages. The test includes:
TEACHING TEST:
After passing the first part(s), you will be assigned an in-class and a drill class mutual. Make a great lesson plan,
and dont be nervous. Officers love it when you make games for your classes, and try to keep them interested; remember they
have sat through the same class 4 times. Any questions, ask your officer(s) or consult the CTP.

WRITTEN TEST:
A multiple choice test of 100+ questions done during cadet time one night in a room supervised by an officer. The test
covers questions on fundamental, marksmanship, bushcraft, leadership, citizenship, and more.
PHYSICAL TEST:
Comprimised of push-ups, sit-ups, long-jump and the shuttle run. See your orange manuals or reference guides for minimums.
Males & females must score a certain amount of points as laid out in the manuals. Each section is awarded points
for the number of sit-ups, push-ups, etc. Make sure you know your minimum, and reach your goals!

PRACTICAL TEST:
Knots & lashings, and map & compass. You must tie 5 knots (thumb, reef, bowline, fisherman, clove-hitch,
1/2hitch, figure 8, and/or double fig. 8), and complete all 5 sections of map and compass. Determine a six figure grid reference
for a specific point on a map and identify the elevation of a given point on a map. Measure the distance along a route on
a map and measure a grid bearing on a map using a compass. Orient a map by inspection of the surrounding terrain and features.
Calculate the magnetic declination of a map and orient a map with the compass. Good luck!
